TORTELLINI DI NATALE DA YOCO

GRAZIE MILLE to my dear friends Yoco Acaghi and Gino Goya for today (1) hosting my tortellini cooking class at her home and (2) working as a perfect assistant!

As usual, the class at Yoco's has been fun and a chance to meet old and new friends. We made nine eggs of fantastic tortellini, also thank to the great prosciutto and parmigiano that my mom sent me as Christmas gifts and that I sacrificed for the happiness of everybody (starting with me). Today we also made a supermarket of Itoman internationally famous, as the only known seller of mortadella in Okinawa.

Yoco made her fantastic tiramisù and Gino-the-machine worked as a professional 'sfoglina' (fresh pasta maker of Bologna, our hometown) at the pasta machine. I ate only three dishes of tortellini, two of bollito misto with original mostarda bolognese Cavazza (once more thank you, mamma!), two rounds of tiramisù and countless espresso coffees. Just to celebrate Christmas.

This has been my last cooking class of this year, now I'll enjoy a three weeks period of rest. It has been a challenging year in different kitchens and at various events, focusing mostly on fresh, handmade pasta and on the recipes of my region, Emilia Romagna. Always following the teachings of mamma Giampaola and aunts Laura and Vittoria, inspired by the incredible dishes of aunt Tina, grandpa Pietro and grandma Giorgina. In other words, my yummy family.
THANKS to all the people - family, friends, food adventures partners - that in many different ways and occasions helped me in several ways.

The new year will bring new adventures, starting on January 13th with a private at-your-home class. Plans for 2018: a class on gnocchi and one on the incredibly good passatelli, almost unknown in Okinawa. Dates and places still to be decided.
I wish you all that follow me a Merry Christmas with a bunch of tortellini and a very Happy New Year with a bunch of calories.
CIAO!

CHRISTMAS MARKET AT MAMMA LELLA

GRAZIE MILLE, どうもうありがとうございました, THANKS A LOT to all the nice people that Saturday came to the 1st Italian Christmas Market at ristorante Mamma Lella in Onna-son!

It has been great fun... until the rain and the wind came.

A lot of people - old and new friends - participated to our little event, enjoying the yummy food of the restaurant or shopping for Christmas: the Italian food products of Prosciutto e Melone - Curtis Naonis (Italian food products importer and dealer/provider based in Itoman), the vintage items of Europa Vintage Okinawa and the cute handicrafts of Atelier Tibitoko - both based in Naha.

For us Italians & Supporters it han been also a very rare opportunity to meet. Each one of us usually very busy with our jobs, don't have many chances to gather.

My special GRAZIE to Eugenio Bettiol and Eriko Bettiol and Ghenta Kinjo of Mamma Lella (and to Stephanie too) for hosting the event; to Gino Goya for helping as co-driver; to Mirco Pilat and Hirakawa Etsuko for lending us their huge tents and tables; to Yumi Tosaka and her hairy husband who REALLY helped in the moment of need (when half typhoon caressed our tents); to Acaghi Yoco and to Myu-san for lending us their priceless cars; and to my wife Satoko Ishizaki for drawing very cute illustrations for our flyers. Sorry if I forget somebody...

We enjoyed the event so much that decided to repeat it in summer ('Italian Summer Party at Mamma Lella'?), most probably in May or June, once the big rains will be over and before the big heat. See you again then!

ITALIA DAY 2017

GRAZIE MILLE to all the nice friends that yesterday visited Italia Day 2017!
It has been a bet (with myself) holding an event on a Monday, but I discovered that people... eat on Mondays too.
I prepared countless dishes - penne and farfalle with ragù and tomato sauce, gnocchi al pomodoro, friggione, salad with balsamic vinegar, bread with olive oil and oregano, piadina, scrambled eggs with carrots + a symbolic olive with the Italian flag - and served rivers of birra, espresso, Spritz, vino, soft-drinks and juices. Yoco's tiramisù was sold out (my friend Kiji had an orgasm while eating it), but also Gino Goya's custard cake was not a joke. Visitors bought the food products of my friend Mirco (a prosciutto and mozzarella and much more's dealer based in Itoman who serves the best panini of Okinawa) and the fantastic Sicilian extra virgin olive oil Olivandro of Francesca Cerletti

My deepest どうもうありがとうございました! to Tomoaki Goeku for renting me his wonderful creature ('Taste of Okinawa' cool restaurant, bar, cooking school) and to my dear friend Acaghi Yoco, without her priceless help I wouldn't have been able to survive to 10-hours-in-a-row of cooking!

Last but not least, THANKS to my 50 cc. scooter for modelling as 'please come inside/いらっしゃいませ!' unpaid assistant.
See you again at 'Italia Day 2018'!
